Sue Tasa, our guest speaker at the October 2007 meeting returned to speak to us for the May 12, 2008 meeting. She gave an in-depth and VERY informative talk on differences in pet food in regard to feeding kibble, canned and raw diets.

She has an extensive background in dog and cat nutrition, graduating from UC Davis with a science degree, working 13 years in pet food manufacturing, distribution, sales and training, and, for the last nine years, educating retail employees at Pet Food Express.

Amanda Vance Speaks at Membership Meeting:

At the last membership meeting, Veterinarian Amanda Vance did a wonderful and through job providing members with information on vaccination protocols. Vaccinations are broken down into three categories: core, non-core, and other.

The canine core group consists of:

1. Canine Parvovirus, Distemper Virus, and Adenovirus- 2 Vaccines
2. Canine Rabies Virus Vaccines

The non-core group of vaccines for dogs are optional and should be considered in light of the exposure risk of the animal. They consist of:

1. Canine Parainfluenza Virus and Bordetella Bronchiseptica
2. Caine Distemper-Measles Combination Vaccine
3. Canine Leptospira Vaccines
4. Canine Borrelia Burgdoferi (Lyme) Vaccine

Other vaccines:

1. Canine Coronavirus Vaccine
2. Canine Giardia spp. Vaccine
3. Canine Rattlesnake Vaccine
4. Canine Porphyromonas Vaccine

Amanda discussed which vaccines should be given and how often depending on the dog and his or her environment. To determine what is best for your dog, she recommends talking to your vet to ensure all bases are covered for your dog for his or her environment.

Amanda passed out detailed information on both canine and feline vaccinations in a handout published by U.C. Davis. This handout is available online at www.vmth.ucdavis.edu/.

If you have questions about vaccines, contact Amanda at pogendoc@netscape.net or through the club at 253-8666.

June, 2008 Obedience & Rally Trials by Mary Ash

As you are all aware NVDTC tried something new this year, two separate trials in one day. Did this work? The jury is still out on that question.

We do not have a final accounting yet. Hopefully by the next general meeting all invoices will be in and paid and we can give the membership the final figures.

I would like to thank the many members who worked so hard in the 100 + heat: Dee McNeil, Teri Taylor, Stephen Ward, Jim Spiva, Karen Jackson, Lori Jackson, Gerry Glantz, Joy Wood, Gary Walker, Lynda Rhyno, Bobbie Honsvick, Anita Boyce, Mary Joy Davis, Marlene Soldavini, Jean MacDonald, Ellen Gariaeff, Christy Rose, Linda Wargo, Linda Luchsinger, Karen Walrath, Sue Bunte, Sue Ingalls, Diane Parness, Cristina Martin, Risha Martin. Many of these workers were there all day and we do so appreciate each and every one of you.
A big Thank You to Sue Bunte for so willingly taking on the raffle at almost the last minute. We took in $306.00 in raffle money.

Also, thanks to the Core Committee for all their hard work in organizing these events and working the day of the event: Linda Luchsinger (Assistant Chair), Bobbie Honsvick (Hospitality), Gerry Glantz (Chief Obedience Steward), Kelly Finn (Chief Rally Steward), Mary Joy Davis (Trophy Sponsorships), Jim Spiva (Equipment & Grounds), Sandy Bonifield (Ribbons & Trophies).

Also thanks to those of you who were there Friday evening for set-up, those who came early Saturday to
finish the set-up, and to those who stayed and helped take the rings down and get the equipment back to the clubhouse.

Whether this was a financial success or not, we put on a great trial and saw lots of smiles on everyone’s faces. THANKS TO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!
