- This class (also known as the Clicker
Class) is designed to teach handlers how to shape behaviors in their dogs
using operant conditioning and positive reinforcement (a click and a treat).
Shaping is a silent, hands-off method of training. You will see how your dog
learns and be able to teach him behaviors you want, and suppress those you
don’t. Types of behaviors that can be shaped include: sit, down, come, heel,
roll over, touching an object (great for agility), dumbbell, retrieve.
- At the end of this class, dogs will
have a basic understanding of the dumbbell and be able to pick it up off of
the ground and take it from their owner’s hand. This class is trained using
positive reinforcement only, no ear pinch, collar twist, etc.; it is taught
using the clicker and food. This is an excellent class to take prior to
taking the Open Obedience class.
- This course is designed to
teach the dog how to use his olfactory powers. Dogs will learn what to look
for with their nose and will learn scent discrimination. This is an excellent
course to take if you’re interested in tracking or utility.
- An advanced obedience course that
includes directed jumping, hand signals, stand for examination, and scent
articles.
